Music + Experimental Audio
Actually
Solo
by Robert Rabinovitz
So I was sitting in my apartment @ 63 West 8th Street on the 4th floor looking out at the beautiful city playing my old beat up 1964 Gibson J-45 making up lyrics as I gaze out at the city. I recorded the tunes into my Iphone or my zoom recorder, not sure which and when.
So blessed to find this apartment in the heart of the village. 63 West 8th is across from Electric Lady Studios, Jimi Hendrix’s studio that I can see from my apartment and sometimes the rooftop activities at the intersection of 6th Ave, 8th Street and Greenwich Avenue. This location also inspired my experimental short film “Maybe Me” about friends and heroes who died from drugs and booze and meet me in Washington Square Park in a dream. The film can be seen on this website in film.
I usually just pick up the guitar and start making stuff up. Not too interested in editing. Sometimes if I like whats happening, I will work on it a bit more.
Actually is the name of my band although up to now its just me. I really like the name and is inspired by when we all pause when asked a question usually a very personal question and say: “actually.”

Influences
Audio Recordings. Deeply effected by teaching a new class during Covid-19 in the Spring of 2021, "Influence By Design", created by Mark Randall at Parsons School of Design, I have experimented with inspiration, improvisation, voice and narrative audio clips.
Each short piece is an attempt to explore and expose complexities of the language and rhetoric of cults, biases, bullying, big business, news, social media effecting our everyday lives in all we do. I have myself been a victim of cult influence and made decisions, choices and actions that without design, intention and my own vulnurabilities and fears would certainly have been different. I have learned a great deal by experience of some cautionary tales.
