Right with God Gotta get right with God

Right from the start I'm thinkin' 'bout the times I thought I was In direct contact Direct talks with God

Moving out to San Francisco And getting those unemployment checks God talking directly to me

Up high on the hill Overlooking the city Thank you Lord For all of what you do

Smokin' dope each and every day Long Island Iced Tea's Rockin Robbins On Haight Street

Back home in Mike's apartment Listenting to KLAX in Berkeley Talkin' to the girls on the radio

Drinking the Guinnes and Harp, Black and Tan Smoking the brown Chasin' the man, the monster, the dragon But I was really the clown

Inhale, stop, pause, fall down Made some custom tools To help me keep my rules Gettin' high each and every day

The Meat Puppets The Grateful Dead Way way over my head

Think I’ll try and work for Bill Graham So I can see All the Dead concerts for free

Showing up at work Stoned out of my mind Trying to do my best to Keep things in rhyme

Don't remember much Each and every day The thrift stores on Haight Where I got my clothes to look straight

Coffee, Tea and Spice All things nice Kelly, The I-Beam Each and every night Jenny, Amy and all that was lost

They wanted to help But I was beyond cost So much to destroy Each and every day

Mike givin' me the bottle of liquid LSD Yeah, I drank a bit Each and every day Took me places I really really wanted to stay

Got me in touch with God My routine The market around the corner Driving downtown to get the Brown Our routine To the scene Copin' from the Sunset District

The phone calls The waiting To get right with God And stop the aching The pain The madness The strain of each and every day

Think I'll go to the clinic Try and get clean The Haight Street Free Clinic Try and get clean again But I know after three days I'm back again

When am I gonna know it I'm just a head

I'm tryin' to keep my seat I'm tryin' to keep my seat Listen to those smart feet That keep me straight On the path To the righteous The simple, the clean and quiet stream of goodness Each and every day

The real dream Of what's right With God's light

Or maybe it's just A talk between friends That keeps me straight That lets all things pass Like George told us So many years ago

Seeing things I never did Seeing through what we all do Each and every day

Right with God Gotta get right with God
